EL CAMINO

When I play this song live, I often introduce it by saying that to be a real songwriter, you've gotta write at least one car song. This is mine. It's about the El Camino -- may
it rest in peace! -- which, despite combining the worst aspects of a car and a pickup truck,  is one of my very favorite vehicles. They're weird lookin', I'll admit, and not
to everyone's taste... but I love 'em anyway.  (As they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.) When I originally wrote the lyrics, I was actually picturing a red & white       El Camino that I'd seen... but "black and white" seemed to sing better.         - Steve H.

1. Gonna buy me an El Camino / gonna paint it black and white
Gonna buy me an El Camino / gonna paint it black and white
Pick you up around sundown / Drive that thing all night

2. Gonna fire up that engine / put that pedal to the floor
Gonna fire up that engine / put that pedal to the floor
Take you out on the highway / Drive 'til we can't drive no more

3. We might wind up in heaven / or in some old motel somewhere
We might wind up in heaven / or in some old motel somewhere
As long as I'm with you, darlin' / you know, I don't really care

repeat Verse 1.
